Bokashi Bin

I've been busy setting up my bokashi bin with the hope of composting more waste more quickly and producing some liquid plant feed on the side.

Here's how you do it:
  1. Take one bucket with a lid
  2. Drill some holes in the bottom (the fun bit!)
  3. Slot the lidded bucket inside a second bucket (which will collect the liquid feed)
  4. Take some composting zing, a bran which starts the fermentation process
  5. Sprinkle a thin layer of zing into the bottom of the bucket
...and then get peeling some potatoes and clearing the rotten salad out of your fridge...

Border Patrol

We headed off to a garden show this morning where he bought a rather robust tool for digging holes and trenches and I indulged in some cactii and succulents for the border by the front door.

Rabbit in the Rain

We spotted one of our furry friends eating daisies under the camellia tree.

He kept his paws nice and clean...

...and eventually settled down under the shelter of the tree.

A mystery flower which has appeared in our lawn.

Australian Vintage

Had a trip to Melbourne this weekend where Emma and I took a social history tour around the Abbotsford Convent. The Convent was built just over a hundred ago but fell empty in the 1970s. It's now home to artists and wellbeing practitioners who seem to be quite keen on the sixties...

Coral Tree Colour

We have five of these coral trees around the house and up the drive. They're classed as a weed in New Zealand but a remarkably striking weed, I think.

Ideal Home

We went to the Auckland Home Show today. After lots of stalls featuring high-tech, ultra-modern heat pumps and sound systems, we pounced on this display of vintage appliances from Fisher & Paykel.

Unfortunately they turned out to be museum pieces and not for sale so we'll have to manage with our meat safe for now...
