We've been determined to rescue as many re-usable bits of wood and fixtures and fittings as possible during the demolition phase of our renovations - I hate throwing things away and didn't want our building work to be wasteful.
So the builders have hoarded hooks and handles and all sorts of bits and pieces in the shed. Most of it has an obvious re-use but other things are more challenging - like the hot water cylinder. I'm going to use the header tank from the loft for making more weed tea but what about the metal tank?
Sadly the internet has few ideas for re-using hot water tanks so what do you think, reader?

I was googling the same question and your post came up :) Did you have any success with this? I was thinking about doing a rain barrel with our old cylinder we just took out, however as the bottom is basically rusted out - bottom would need to be fixed or else turned upside down) and then I was wondering if the metal would just rust allover being kept outside?
ReplyDeleteThe other option is to take it the scrap yard as they like the copper in the old cylinders - our small 135l cylinder should be around $60-70 dollars return.
I'm still undecided what to do, as using it as a rain barrel would be cheaper than buying a actual rain barrel...but not sure if it would work.
What did you end up doing with your cylinder??
Thanks
