Peahen, up high

This peahen was startled by a cat and flew into the tree on the slope below our back path.

She looked a little baffled by how she was going to get down again and spent about half an hour up there before fluttering back down again.

A Year of Bread and Jam

During my first spell of parental leave, I taught myself to bake. Nothing fancy but enough to make sure that I always had something that I could knock together for a playdate.

This time around, I'm going to take it a step further and teach myself how to bake bread using this book. I think I'll turn my hand to preserves too - chutneys and jam to go with the bread. Mmm...

I had my first go and made the easiest home-bake loaf ever. And it turned out pretty well - it was definitely bread, just a bit flatter than I would have liked. I've invested in an X-Acto knife now for slashing the top and hope the next loaf will rise more.

Kidnapped

I found this picture when I was looking through my phone - this adorable dog belongs to one of our neighbours and I found it on the road early one morning last year. I took him home whilst I worked out where he belonged. But I was very tempted to keep quiet!
